{What I Wore Wednesday} Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair
is one of my favorite novels.

I picked up my vintage edition about five years ago in Solvang, CA.
There's a quaint vintage book store there.
**Etchings are Thackeray's creations for original publication.

Like many gals out there, the Victorian novel, a la Jane Austen, is a must.
Thackeray wrote in the same period, and this novel is filled with
Victorian goodness as it follows Becky Sharp through the ups and downs of life.

Like many Victorian era novels it focuses on the role of a woman
and her ability to manipulate and alter the role.
This is surprising since it is written from a male perspective.

Also, true to Victorian form,
this novel is full of tangents.
Political tangents, contemporary tangents, social tangents, etc.
It is just a part of writing during this era.
Names like John Locke are not uncommon in this novel.
These tangents can make this novel tedious,
but I find them worth the work.

They were also a necessity at time of publication
because novels were published as weekly or monthly periodicals.
Thus, word count mattered to the author who wanted to make the contract stretch.

However, if you do not have the time,
a way to experience the story
(although in a slightly inaccurate version)
is by viewing the film version which stars Reese Witherspoon.

It is a good film, even if it is not wholly true to the text.

Okay, so . . .
today I felt a bit Victorian myself,
mainly because I wanted to wear the headband I won from
during a giveaway at Agape Love.

It is oh so cute!!!
I love the colors, the textures, and the cameo.

I paired it with a lacy top, some jeggings, and some Victorianesque heeled boots.
Shoes: Kohls, Jeggings $6: Target Clearance, Lace blouse: Nordstrom BP (SUPER old),
nursing camisole $2: Target clearance, Headband: Moonbeams and Stardust

Psst . . . please ignore shiny, bad skin again this week. I am still not wearing any make up, nor had I yet washed my face.
Oooops!

The shoes close up

Okay, sorry if my foot disturbs you, but I just wanted to share something
about pants and short legs,

This gal LOVES clearance, but it means dealing with this,
That is how long the jeggings really are. I rolled them under for the other photos.

Anyone else with a short inseam?
What are your tricks of the trade?

I have many more.

Sorry to leave you with my feet!
