{What I Wore Wednesday} Anchor's Away

Oh yes, it is another nautical themed outfit. 

I will probably have many.

My wardrobe is FULL of them.

This one is actually made of mostly new pieces that 

I picked up with my birthday money.

Beware of FOG . . . 

in the next few photos that is.

The wind kept knocking the camera down, which got the lens dirty.

It was CRAZY WINDY.

I actually adore this one even though it is foggy and bright.
It just has a LOOK about it that I like.

This is my new necklace that I won from Laura at Live, Laugh, Photograph.
I am sad that the wind blew the bow backward for the photo.
I didn't notice until I was posting.

We all know that it is the details 

that cause an outfit to make a splash.

What details do you focus on 

when you want your outfit to make a splash 

without causing people to want to throw you overboard?

Southwest Chicken Salad

This is one of my favorite quick recipes.
We actually had it tonight.

I love how easy it is to whip up,

and it is EXTRA yummy too.

Ingredients:

Leafy lettuce of your choice

Corn

Black Beans

Green Onion (or other onion)

Cilantro (if on hand)

Other vegis that you have on hand that you think will work.

Tortilla chips--crushed

Chicken (optional if you are vegitarian it can go bye bye)

Dressing (Ranch or Creamy Cilantro or BOTH)

Cheddar Cheese

So first cook up your chicken, unless you buy pre-cooked Tyson strips.

I cooked up chicken this time in some chili powder, salt, and pepper.

Taking a picture when something is steaming isn't easy.

While it was cooking I placed all of the vegetables and the beans in my favorite Mikasa bowl.

I always use it for this salad.

Then I added the crushed tortilla chips.

Followed by the chicken when it was done cooking.

Finally I added shredded cheese on top of the HOT chicken so that it would get melty.

Finally I mixed the two dressing on top and tossed.

Ranch is always BEST homemade and this Fresh and Easy dressing is AMAZING.

It was ready to serve up.

Healthy. Yummy. Filling.


Meals like this are great for the summer time.
They also make great sides for BBQs and other gatherings.

Yes, I am going there.

Please forgive me,

but the warm weather has this concern on my mind.

I have some chunka monka on my inner thighs,

don't be afraid,

I will not share it with you.

I will save you the horror.

However, this can cause a HUGE problem

in the fun and warm weather of

Spring, Summer, and even California Fall.

I adore dresses, and I even wear shorts,

which I know many gals do not do.


I even wore this get up to the Farmer's Market last week; 
that's why I am holding a carrot.

(GROSS. I know. Again, I apologize).

I need something to help keep from getting chafed and burned.

tip.

DEODORANT.

Oh yes ladies, deodorant is for far more

than those lovely pits. 

There are two ways you can do this.

First, you can just use your deodorant stick, preferably not the gel kind though.

It doesn't really work as well.

Or, you can use spray on deodorant.

This is often my prefered method.

In addition to chafing;

again I forwarn you that this is a bit personal; 

if you are a larger busted woman and you experience

some stickyness and sweating due to this,

spray some of that spray on deodorant

under the lovelies too.

I just hate when my shirt is sweaty under the girls.

It is in NO WAY attractive or comfortable.

Okay, so now that you probably are disgusted

by me and never want to visit me or my blog again,

go get some deodorant

and think outside the, eh, packaging.


Other chafing helpers are:
Baby Powder
SPANX (they can get sweaty and moist though. YUCK!)
Corn Starch

Quick Banana Pineapple Upside Down Cake

The other night The Cuban Cowboy grilled up some delicious 

teriyaki burgers, and I wanted to make something to go with.

I have an abundance of black bananas in my freezer waiting to be baked 

up into delicious goodness.

Plus, I knew I had to open a fairly large can of crushed pineapple for the burgers.

The light bulb went off in my head and a new recipe was born.

This recipe may remind you of a mixed drink.

Maybe there should be a matching drink recipe using Malibu

 Pineapple Rum and Malibu Banana Rum.

well if I ever buy any alcohol.

The chances of that happening . . . slim to none.

It may be a good drink though, 

or I suppose you could add these ingredients to the list if you wanted.

Anyway, on to the recipe.

Here is what you will need.

1 yellow cake mix 

eggs (per box)

water (per box)

oil (I used 1/4 cup instead of the 1/3 called for 

because there are so many other moist ingredients in this recipe)

Powdered sugar

Raw sugar

crushed pineapple

2 black bananas

Okay, so the directions are fairly straight forward.

Grease your baking pan.

Covered lightly with powdered sugar.

Spread crushed pineapple over the bottom of the pan.

Make cake per box directions, with exception of oil noted.

Also, add your bananas and about 1/2 cup of crushed pineapple.

Mix well.

Bake per box directions.

After the cake is done cooking, 

pull it out of the oven and sprinkle raw sugar on top while it is still HOT!

The sugar will become sticky and Y*U*M*M*Y!!!

Now you can let it cool and serve.

Easy Peasy!!!!

I truly love blogging. I've been blogging since February of this year, and it has just been such a joy! I love getting inspiration from other bloggers out there, and implementing the things I've seen into my home! I'm sure you can relate :)

So since I'm visiting over here, I thought it would only be fitting to bring my best! Today, I'm going to show you my dining room table turned from beastly to beautiful!



As you can see, my dining room table was the cream of the crop in 1978 (like my calendar falling off the wall? That's how we roll). It was given to us by our old neighbors, and they gave me all matching 8 chairs! The table was a huge blessing because at the time we had a 4 person table with one of the chairs only bearing three legs, and we had our youth group coming over once to twice a week so we needed something desperately!

But it's 2011, not 1978. It had burn marks from a hot casserole dish burning through the tablecloth, scratches, cheerios, cup rings...it had definitely seen better days.

So after vigorous sanding, Kilz oil based primer, latex satin black paint on the table and Rustoleum's semi-gloss spray paint on the chairs, and a few coats of Minwax Polycrylic gloss, it was as good as new!







Please excuse the missing chair, she was painted later and was having the 3 day cure I did on the table and chairs.

I love it now! I've been contemplating bringing in different dining room chairs to spice it up a bit, but that costs money and a deep hunt on craigslist. So I'm okay with my extremely low cost renovation to my dining room table for now!

{What I Wore Wednesday} Combining Color

Although I can at times make BOLD clothing choices,

I do have a tendency to pair neutrals with brighter colors.

The thought of pairing two bright colors,

SINFUL.

Mostly because I worry that I cannot pull it off,

or maybe they do not coordinate aw well as I thought.

Well, today I stepped outside of my comfort zone, just a teeny bit.

This was at the encouragement of the lovely Nina from Momma Go Round.

What did I pair?

Well, coral and a seafoam.

Sounds very oceany, 

maybe I should be at the beach.

First a day look.

Then maybe a summer evening date look.

Maybe, more like if I wanted to go back to work,

I'd wear something like this for teaching.

I took off the striped tank, leaving only the under one, and then I added a blazer.

Queen Bee Market

Over the weekend Jenna from Copy Cat Corner

and I went to the Queen Bee Market in San Diego.

It is a small craft show, but it is SUPER great.

It is not your grandmother's craft show filled with kitschy things you'd never sport or use.

Instead, it is all the awesomeness that lives in blogland and on sites like ETSY and Big Cartel.

Here are a few glimpses of the fun we had and some of the items we picked up, 

others that we wish we had.

This shop was great. Her prices are AMAZINGLY reasonable.

Another shop that I purchased an item from was 

Yellow Me Daisy.

We purchased a Car Roll-Up Playmat for Monster.

Her site says that they were all gone by the end of the first night.

Probably because they are AWESOME!!!

Also, her prices are super reasonable. 

I really wanted to buy her entire shop,

especially because it was full of stuff for boys.

SWOON!

I will for sure be stalking her now.

This event was not a one time deal,

so go to their site to check for the next date.

I promise you won't regret your visit.

Just remember to bring the moolah.

I brought cash, which was a smart choice because there is a cash only line.

It was WAY shorter.
