Catching Up

Hello there. I haven't been here in, well, let's just say EONS.You may have already noticed that I am making some updates.

 Life has been busy. I have been busy. Tons of crazy things have happened in the past year and a half, including my husband changing careers (not by choice), our youngest swallowing a quarter causing us to be thousands of dollars in medical debt, me working four jobs to pay off said debt successfully in just under five months. That is just the briefest of synopses.

 Little to say, all of this has kept me away from blogging, reading blogs, crafting much at all, and, well, doing much more than being Mommy, wife, professor, Bible study leader, and exam rater.Yes, things have been C*R*A*Z*Y!!!!!!!!!!!

 Good things have happened too. I want to use this summer to share some of those things that I did manage to squeeze in. Also, I will, hopefully, share some new things as well. Today, I just want to give you a glimpse of how my Monster and Roly Poly have changed. These photos are our Christmas shots from December, so they are actually outdated, but too cute not to share.

Monster is becoming such a little man

I did the shoot myself with my Canon Rebel I received as a birthday gift in May 2012 from a WONDERFUL friend. It was her old one, but it is an AMAZING gift all the same. I LOVELOVELOVE it and, more importantly, HER!

The shoot was done at one of our local Super Targets. There are some benches on the south side between the Target and Ross. And, from the first time I saw them, I knew I wanted to do a shoot with the industrial, metal flower arrangements. They are so great. 

We chose a Geek Sheek theme to go with the industrial flowers. We even took some post "work" shots inside the Starbucks at Target afterward. You know ties undone, grabbing a quick drink. 

I hope to get back in the swing of things here. I need me some creativity.

{What I Wore Wednesday} Peachy Keen

Oh boy!

The peach blossoms have sprung over here in the High Desert.

They are looking beautiful too.

Since this is a dry climate they take a bit longer to come out,

but when they do it is such a joy.

So, I thought that today's outfit needed some peachy keen goodness

as accompaniment.

Yes, I know I look a bit silly wearing a warmy headband in 80 degree weather,

but who cares because I like my headband.

Shirt: Target Clearance $7, Headband: My Shop, Michael Kors Jeans: Nordstrom (when I had money before kids),

Pyramid stud earrings: Target Clearance $2/3 pair in different shades

Oh dear that funky eyebrow of mine. If only it would always stay in place.

It is a great way to avoid styling the hair in the wind.

The desert is atrociously windy at times.

I also thought I'd try my own creative (and VERY amateur) hand at photography with this post.

Not too bad for a point and shoot and NO skills what-so-ever.

Creative Christmas Portraits

I am so glad that we experimented with a new photographer this year. We have LOVED all of our photographers, but when I found out that my friend Chris Gomez was going to do family shoots I signed right up. Chris specializes in pin-up photography. He mainly shoots at events and by appointment. He has also done great work for some clothing companies and bands. This being said, family photography was a new adventure for him. I LOVELOVELOVE his style, so I knew that this would be great, and it was. He had an eye and a creative mind. My favorite idea is featured here in this post.

CATCHING SNOWFLAKES!!!!

What a great idea. I love stepping outside of the box. I just had to have him edit up at least one catching snowflake shot. The idea was so creative and intriguing. I think it is my absolute favorite shot. Of course I love the family photos, and the ones of just our boys, but this picture has an extra touch that can only be attributed to the talent of my long-time friend. So, I encourage you to do two things this holiday season when taking your christmas portraits.

1. Be creative and fun. Do something different.
