Boy Shorts Turned Diaper Cover

Okay, so I wanted a diaper cover for Roly Poly's
St. Patrick's Day/ 7 Month Photos

I was going to make one from an old pair of mens pants,
but I just couldn't find any that would work in our house or at the thrift store I frequent.

However, I did have these size 9 month shorts.

I know that some of you may be thinking shorts, diaper cover, what's the difference?
Well, the main difference is the obvious, which is length.
Other than that they are pretty much the same.

I needed something super short, diaper length,
so that his baby legs I made could be seen well.

Okay, enough about that.
On to the details of what I did.

First, I removed the pockets from the back of the shorts in order to reduce bulk
and awkwardness in the final product.

Then I folded the shorts in half and laid a onesie, also folded in half, on top of them.

This gave me an idea of what angle to cut.
I knew I wanted the angle to cover a little bit more than the onesie,
so I went about a half inch lower with the angle.

Sorry, this English gal is not good with mathematic angles,
so I can't so what angle I changed it to.

After cutting I turned the now cover inside out.
I folded up about 1/2 inch to make a casing for elastic.
I suggest ironing it down before stitching.

Then I stitched.

This is not the prettiest of all inside hems due to the single fold,
but they are for one time photos.

Leave about 1/4 inch open in the casing.

Insert your elastic using the safety pin trick.
Yes that is a Grey's episode playing on my TV.

Sew the two ends of elastic together.

Finish the stitching of the casing.

VOILA!VOILA!

You now have super chic bloomers
as opposed to boring, everyday shorts.

Here's Roly Poly sporting them along with his Shamrock Baby Legs inside the local Kiddie Kandids.

Isn't his ensemble too cute?
